Call on God in Good Times and Bad

Good morning, Happy Souls!

Bill Keller wrote a wonderful devotional today
that I highly recommend to you. He has given
me permission to copy his e-mails, and I'm sure
he would be happy if you would share this with
people you know as well.

It's always been easy for me to shift my
attention onto new things. In some ways, that's
good. If that shift comes at the expense of
being in touch with God, it's not so good.

Please read on.

*********************************************

DAILY DEVOTIONAL SATURDAY FEBRUARY 11, 2006
(Judges 3:9, Judges 4:1, Judges 21:25,
The Book of Judges)

Do you only call on God in your time of need?
People have not really changed since God created Adam
and Eve. While billions and billions of people have
lived and died since the first man and woman, people
have not changed. A great study in human behavior is
found in the Book of Judges. I want to encourage you
today to take some time in the next few days and sit
down and read the entire Book of Judges. It will take
you less than an hour, and be worth every minute.
Sadly, the spiritual lives of most Christians are
exactly like the spiritual lives of the children of
Israel in the Book of Judges. Here is how the pattern
goes.

While everything is going great in your life, God
slowly stops being your top priority. Actually, He
often gets put far down the list of priorities. You
quit praying every day, having that meaningful time
alone, just you and the Lord. You quit reading your
Bible every day. Going to church is not a MUST any
longer. Allowing God to use you to bless others with
your life isn't a burning desire. If it happens,
that is fine, but it is not that important.

As God plays less of a role in your daily life, you
slowly start making choices that you would not make
when you are in that close, daily relationship with
Him. At the time, they seem like harmless choices.
But as the days go by, you are making more and more
choices that are NOT pleasing to God. Deep down
you know this, but you justify it by telling yourself
that you deserve to have some fun, to do what YOU
want to do. Slowly over time, it is no longer what
God wants from your life, but only what YOU want.

One morning you wake up and your life is a mess.
You see my friend, SIN ALWAYS HAS CONSEQUENCES.
THERE IS ALWAYS A PRICE FOR SIN..A BIG PRICE. The
Bible tells us that satan comes to "kill, steal,
and destroy". When you forget God, when you quit
making Him the head of your life, when you put God
on the shelf because you think that you don't need
Him, you have opened the door for satan to come in
and destroy you!

Trust me, at first it won't be anything that bad.
Satan is the great deceiver. He will deceive you
into thinking that you don't need God. He will
deceive you into thinking that it is YOUR LIFE, and
you should do whatever YOU want to do. The longer
that we live without God, the more choices that we
make without praying, the deeper in sin we get. Sin
is like quicksand, we sink slowly, and when God
tries to get our attention, we ignore Him and sink
deeper.

It is only when we are facing insurmountable odds,
only when we have hit bottom, only when life is
crashing down all around us that we finally decide
to cry out to God. Look at the Prodigal Son. He
had to lose everything, and be living in the worst
conditions imaginable until he went home to his
father. In our desperation we go to God, we repent,
we ask His forgiveness, and we re-dedicate our lives
to Him. Does that mean all of our problems magically
go away overnight? NO! We didn't create our
problems overnight, and they rarely go away overnight.

But we do now have God back in our lives and He is
fighting for us, giving us the strength to get through
each day, giving us the hope we need to move forward.
Having God back in our lives doesn't eliminate us
from having to deal with the consequences of our
ungodly choices, but over time, He will help us to be
victorious. Our life will be great again!!! We will
look forward to waking up each morning. We will once
again know the peace, the joy, the abundance that
this life can offer. Many however, like the children
of Israel in the Book of Judges, will sadly start to
forget God again, and the cycle will be repeated all
over.

I love you and care about you so much. I pray today
that this message opens the hearts of many as this
trap satan uses so effectively is exposed. Here
is the truth that I never want you to forget. ***WE
NEED GOD ON THE MOUNTAINTOP...JUST AS MUCH AS WE NEED
GOD IN THE VALLEY!!! Let me repeat that. WE NEED
GOD ON THE MOUNTAINTOP...JUST AS MUCH AS WE NEED GOD
IN THE VALLEY!!!

We all know to call on the Lord in our time of
trouble. My word for you today is to call on Him
ALWAYS!!! In this life, we will always have trials.
No matter how close we are to the Lord, we all have
to fight the day to day issues of living in this
sin-filled world. Nobody can escape that. However,
when we stay close to God each day, we can minimize
the problems in our life that WE CAUSE through our
rebellion!

Do you only call on God in your time of need? My
admonition for you today is to call on Him EVERY
DAY. Keep Him first at ALL TIMES. God has
revealed to YOU today a common trap men and women
from the beginning have fallen into. Receive this
word from the Lord today and walk with God every
day of your journey here on earth. Call on Him in
your time of need AND in your time of plenty!!!

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller

God May Answer Your Prayers in Unexpected Ways -- It's Okay!

Good morning, Happy Souls!

Bill Keller wrote a wonderful devotional today
that I highly recommend to you. He has given
me permission to copy his e-mails, and I'm sure
he would be happy if you would share this with
people you know as well.

It's always been hard for me to know how to talk
about my faith. I'm getting better. Perhaps
you sometimes feel the same way. If so, today's
devotional is for you and me.

Please read on.

*********************************************

DAILY DEVOTIONAL FRIDAY FEBRUARY 10, 2006
( Psalms 91:15, Isaiah 65:24 )

When God doesn't answer our prayers the way we want.
Today, I want to address an issue that I know
troubles many people. Everyone has prayers that
aren't answered the way we wanted them to be
answered. We prayed for God to heal someone we
love, only to see them die. We prayed for a
financial need that didn't get met. We have all
had prayers that simply weren't answered the way
we wanted them to be.

What does that mean? Does that mean we prayed wrong?
Does that mean we didn't have enough faith when we
prayed? Does that mean God didn't hear us? What does
it mean when we pray and we don't get the answer we
want?

Never forget that prayer demonstrators our dependence
upon God. If you didn't need God's help why would you
pray to Him in the first place? We pray out of our
need. We are constantly dealing with the trials and
tribulations of living in this sinful and evil world.
We pray because we are instructed to in God's Word.
God tells us over and over to call on His name, to
cast our cares upon Him, to boldly come to the throne
of grace. We pray in faith. We pray believing that
God is able to meet whatever need we have, no matter
how small or great that need may be.

As you mature in your walk with the Lord, you begin
to accept that there are things you will pray for
that simply won't be answer as you desired. That
doesn't mean God didn't hear you, or that God doesn't
love you, or that God is punishing you. It doesn't
mean that you prayed wrong or that you didn't have
enough faith. It simply means that God had another
answer.

Many times I have prayed for something and didn't get
the answer I wanted. Of course I was disappointed,
maybe a little frustrated, even a bit discouraged.
But as I matured in my relationship with the Lord I
began to accept God's answer even when it wasn't the
answer I wanted to hear.

I have come to the place in my journey with Jesus
that I pray in faith, pray believing, but am willing
to accept God's answer regardless what it is since
I know His answer is the best answer. God sees down
the road where I can't. He sees the big picture that
I can't. I have come to realize that God loves me
and how He answers my prayers, even when they are
not the answers I want, are because He only wants
the best for me.

I love you and care about you so much. Let me give
you some wisdom today. In the end you want God's
answer, not yours. Like I tell you all the time,
God's way works, our ways don't. I can assure you
that God's answer will always be better than yours.

Some people may say, "why pray at all, why waste my
time?" Simple, because God tells us to pray! Again,
prayer demonstrates our dependence upon God, it is a
way of exercising our faith. We pray, but are
prepared for God's answer which may not be the answer
we want. However, we accept it because it is the
best answer for our life.

So don't be upset the next time you don't get the
answer you wanted from God. Instead praise Him for
the answer, knowing that His answer is better than
yours. The key to this whole issue is for God's
heart and desires to become our heart and desires.
We can't always know the heart and desires of God,
but the longer we walk with Him, the more we study
His Word, the more our heart becomes with His heart
and our desires become His desires. That is the
place all followers of Christ should strive to be.

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller

Ideas for Witnessing Your Faith

Good morning, Happy Souls!

Bill Keller wrote a wonderful devotional today
that I highly recommend to you. He has given
me permission to copy his e-mails, and I'm sure
he would be happy if you would share this with
people you know as well.

It's always been hard for me to know how to talk
about my faith. I'm getting better. Perhaps
you sometimes feel the same way. If so, today's
devotional is for you and me.

Please read on.

*********************************************

DAILY DEVOTIONAL WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2006
( Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 1:23, 2 Timothy 4:2,
1 Peter 3:15 )

A simple way to share your faith and lead someone to
Christ. Sharing your faith with others is like
praying, there is only one wrong way to do it and
that is not to do it! Over the years there have
been thousands of books and tapes produced on
witnessing, one evangelism program after another
created, and the fact is they are ALL great. You
can never learn too much about how to witness to
others, how to share your faith. The reality is
there is no one way to do it, but many different
approaches. In the end, however, they all lead a
person to the eternal choice they must make about
Jesus.

You have to remember that each person who shares
their faith is unique and different in how God has
wired them, each person you witness to is unique
and different in how God has wired them, and the
circumstances and dynamics each time you share your
faith are also unique and different. That is why
today I wanted to take some time to share with you
a simple way to witness and lead someone to faith
in Jesus Christ.

The number one reason people don't share their
faith more often, and sadly in the case of most
Christians who fail to do it at all, is fear. The
biggest fear is the fear of rejection. Witnessing
has many similarities to sales which is why you find
people who are most proficient at witnessing are
usually great sales people. In the world of sales
the first thing you learn about is rejection. A
good salesperson is able to hear 99 people say no
and go into that 100th sales presentation just like
it was the first.

That is not easy to do and why it is a gift to be
a great salesperson. Even if you are not a natural
salesperson, the key is to never forget that if
someone says no when you share with them how they
can be saved, it is not you but Jesus they are
rejecting. Just like a good salesperson never
takes it personally when someone turns them down,
you can't ever take it personally when someone you
ask to commit their life to Christ says no. Again,
they are saying no to Jesus, not you.

Also, the key to being a good salesperson is being
a good closer. You will never get the sale if you
don't ask for it, and you will never see someone
come to Christ if you don't ask them to. The basic
rule of Sales 101 is ABC or, Always Be Closing.
The basic rule to Evangelism 101 is asking the
person you are witnessing to if they would like to
know Jesus as their personal Savior. At the end of
a sales presentation you have to ask the person for
the sale, and at the end of sharing the Gospel you
have to ask the person to accept the Lord.

Another fear so many people have is being asked
questions they can't answer. You don't have to be
a theologian to tell people about Jesus. If they
ask you a question you don't know the answer to,
simply tell them you don't know but will find out.
Contact your pastor or your Sunday School teacher
or someone at your church for the answer. This is
why the more we read and study God's Word for
ourselves the more confidence we will have when we
are confronted with different questions.

However, never forget that most people asking
questions are not really interested in the answer as
they are in trying to justify their own unbelief.
Most ask questions as a way of proving that we are
"wrong" and they are "right." People who reject
God's Word and the love of Christ in their life,
will use questions there may not even be an answer
to, to feel better about their choice to reject the
Lord. That is why I will answer their questions,
but immediately put the focus back on them and the
choice they have to make regarding accepting Jesus
in their heart.

The other great fear people have about sharing their
faith is offending the person you are talking to
about the Lord and what ramifications there may be
to them personally. So rather than offend someone,
rather than deal with whatever persecution there might
be, they simply say nothing. Listen, it is better you
offend someone with the hopes of them coming to know
the Lord than sitting back and saying nothing, while
they die in their sins and are lost for all eternity.

It is better someone calls you "Bible thumper,"
"stupid for believing the Bible," "intolerant,"
"hateful," "no different than the Taliban," or
whatever else they may say to you to try and
intimidate you into being silent, than saying nothing
knowing they will die one day and spend eternity
in hell. The fact is the Gospel IS offensive to
those who reject it, but it is the words of
everlasting life to those who choose to believe.

I love you and care about you so much. The bottom
line is that God has commanded us, not suggested to
us, that we share our faith in Christ with others.
This is not a commandment to just pastors or
evangelists, but to EVERYONE who knows Christ as
their Lord and Savior. If you really love someone,
how can you let them die, knowing that without
Christ they will be lost for all eternity, without
telling them about Jesus?

I will be praying for you today, praying that you
won't allow fear to keep you from being obedient to
God and telling others about Jesus. The easiest
and most natural way to approach someone about faith
in Christ is by simply sharing what Jesus has done
and meant in your life. There is no way to deny
what you have personally experienced in your
relationship with the Lord.

Today, I rebuke that sprit of fear of rejection, I
rebuke that sprit of fear of questions you can't
answer, I rebuke that spirit of fear of offending
someone by telling them about Jesus, I rebuke that
spirit of fear of being persecuted for sharing the
Gospel. I pray that God will give you a spirit of
BOLDNESS and COURAGE as you tell others about how
they too can know Jesus Christ as their personal
Lord and Savior!

I take a very direct approach to witnessing. I
look the person in the eye and ask them if they
believe they will die one day. Of course they say
yes. I then ask them if they believe they have ever
sinned. Again, they will say yes. I tell them that
they are right, they have sinned and they will die
one day. I remind them that the Bible says tomorrow
is promised to none of us and that each day is
literally a gift from God.

I go on by telling them that it is their sin that
is separating them from a Holy God who loves them
so much and desires for them to spend all eternity
with Him. I tell them that is only possible because
of what Jesus did. He willingly died on the cross
for our sins and that is why if you will confess
Him as your Savior, ask Him into your heart and
life by faith, HE will forgive you of your sins and
you are guaranteed to spend eternity with God your
Creator when this brief life is over.

I share with them that this choice not only has
eternal ramifications, but means something to them
right now. Those who know Jesus as their Savior
have the power of God residing within them, and can
know the peace, the joy, and the abundance of this
life that is impossible without Christ. Additionally,
they can see the plan and purpose God has for them
fulfilled during their brief journey here on earth.

At that point I simply ask them if they would like
to know Jesus as their personal Savior. If they say
no, I tell them that I will be praying for them and
that they need to spend some time alone with God and
pray about what I told them. I remind them that God
loves them and He is there when they are ready. If
they say yes, I spend a few moments to make sure they
know that what they are doing is literally giving
their very life to Christ. He gave His life for them,
and they are now giving their life back to Him.

The key for you to remember is that this is a
personal decision each person has to make for
themselves. Nobody can make it for them, you can't
force them, or intimidate them, or scare them into
making it. It has to be a conscious choice that
they make. When they are ready, I simply have
them pray with me what is commonly called the
"Sinner's Prayer." This prayer does not exist in
the Bible, though it is taken largely from Romans
Chapter 10. These words don't save anyone but are
simply a verbal guide for what they are doing BY
FAITH in their heart.

"God, I am a sinner. I ask you to forgive me of my
sins. I believe in my heart, and confess with my
lips, that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
Come into my heart Jesus. Take my life, I surrender
it to you. From this moment on, I will live my life
according to the Bible and serve you. Thank you for
taking away my sins and giving me everlasting life.
In the name of
Jesus I pray, Amen"

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller

Trust God . . . Avoid Lady Luck!

Good morning, Happy Souls!

Bill Keller wrote a wonderful devotional today
that I highly recommend to you. He has given
me permission to copy his e-mails, and I'm sure
he would be happy if you would share this with
people you know as well.

Whenever I walk through a casino, I'm always
torn when I see people lined up the ATMs to get
more cash. I worry about them and say a little
prayer. When I see people pouring hundreds of
dollars into slot machines, I feel a little ill.

Read on.

*********************************************

DAILY DEVOTIONAL SUNDAY FEBRUARY 5, 2006
( Psalms 118:8 )

***TODAY, OVER $2 BILLION WILL BE WAGERED WORLDWIDE
ON THE SUPER BOWL. THE NEWEST CRAZE IN GAMBLING
TODAY IS POKER. AS RECENT AS 40 YEARS AGO, GAMBLING
HAD A STIGMA TO IT. PEOPLE KNEW THAT IT WAS NOT
ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. IT WAS NOT GLORIFIED, BUT
RIGHTFULLY VIEWED AS AN IMMORAL ACTIVITY. HOWEVER,
IN JUST 40 SHORT YEARS, VIRTUALLY EVERY STATE IN
THE UNION NOW SPONSORS SOME FORM OF LEGALIZED
GAMBLING. IT IS AS CLOSE AS YOUR 7-11 STORE. AS A
SOCIETY, WE HAVE BOUGHT INTO THE LIE THAT IT IS A
HARMLESS ACTIVITY THAT CAN HELP GOVERNMENT PAY FOR
VALUABLE PROGRAMS LIKE OUR SCHOOLS. THE FACT IS,
AFTER MANY YEARS OF STATE SPONSORED GAMING, NONE
OF THE BENEFITS COME CLOSE TO THEIR PROMISED GOALS,
AND VERY REAL LIVES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. IT IS NOT
HARMLESS FUN!!!

The Biblical case against gambling. I am often asked
whether it is a sin to buy a Lottery ticket. I am
going to tell you up front that there is no verse in
the Bible that says, "thou shalt not gamble." However,
let me give you a Biblical basis why gambling is a sin.
Gambling involves an element of risk. Ultimately, you
are putting your faith in something other than God
for the outcome. Therein lies the foundation of why
gambling is a sin. Instead of trusting God, instead
of putting your faith in God, you have chosen to put
your faith in luck. You are hoping to beat the odds
and it is putting your hope and faith in something
other than God that makes gambling a sin. Let me
outline for you three additional reasons why gambling
is a sin.

First, it can cause you to lose sight of your
priorities. Never forget, anytime something is more
important than the Lord in your life, it is a sin.
We are to love the Lord our God with all of our heart
and He MUST be our first priority at all times.
Second, it can be a poor use of God's resources that
He has entrusted to you. Many people I have counseled
are in financial difficulties, not because they have
not been blessed by God, but because they have misused
and mishandled their blessing. Lastly, it can be a
stumblingblock to your brother or sister. Many people
have a compulsive nature, could end up in total bondage
to gambling. So while it may not be a problem in your
life, your involvement may cause someone else to have a
problem with gambling.

Let me make an important point. When I talk about
gambling, I am referring to the lottery, sports
gambling, casino games, private card games...but I am
also talking about the financial markets. Having been
involved heavily in the financial markets in the 80's,
I can tell you that many people use the word investing,
when in fact they are literally gambling. When you are
taking a financial position in the outcome of something
that is unknown, that is gambling no matter what words
you want to use. You have as much control over the
stock price of a particular company as you do over the
performance of your favorite football team.

***This is NOT an indictment against having stocks and
bonds. Prudent, reasoned, well strategized investment
plans are encouraged in God's Word. I am talking about
those who are simply rolling the dice hoping to get
lucky in the stock market.

The Bible teaches us to be wise stewards with the
resources God has entrusted to us. I am a strong
advocate of investing a portion of our resources in
well researched, fundamentally sound opportunities
that have the real potential of giving us a reasonable
return. That is wise use of God's money. God
encourages this type of prudent investing. The line
is crossed into gambling when you are just "hoping to
be right," or entering into a situation with greed as
your motive. No prayer, no research, simply taking a
chance you might win. For the above outlined reasons,
that is a sin my friend.

I love you and care about you so much. I will be
praying for you today, especially those who have been
caught up in the bondage of this addiction to gambling.
If you, or someone you know is addicted to gambling,
know that I will be praying today for those who are
in this bondage. God is a God of deliverance and He
can deliver someone from the bondage of gambling.
Never forget that there is hope in Christ, and no
matter how bad someone has destroyed their life, God
can help them put the pieces together if they are
ready to surrender to Him. Gambling is a sin, since
inherent in the nature of gambling there is a
reliance on chance instead of faith in God. But
like all sin, Christ died on the cross to wash our
sins away and give us victory!

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller
